Fluid Attraction began as a meditation on the gravitational relationship between the moon and the ocean—but quickly evolved into something more intimate, more human.
There’s a fundamental simplicity to the idea of attraction: one force pulls, and another responds. But in both nature and life, that dynamic is rarely so linear or clear. It’s tidal. It shifts. It resists, yields, swells, and crashes.
In this painting, I was drawn to explore that push and pull—the raw physicality of the tides and the emotional resonance of being moved by something outside yourself. The full moon, rendered in silver leaf, represents not just gravitational force, but the quiet constancy of a presence that affects us, even when we’re unaware. The sea, achieved by suspending acrylic paint in a medium, emulates its roiling textures and violent beauty, is a mirror for emotional turbulence, longing, and surrender.
This work is about the beauty and ache of not being in control. About being stirred by unseen forces—love, memory, grief, desire—that shape us the way the moon sculpts the tides. And yet, in that chaos, there’s rhythm. There’s balance. A pattern emerges that reminds us we are part of something larger, something deeply elemental.
Fluid Attraction is my attempt to hold both the simplicity of connection and the complexity of motion in one breathless moment.
